First preview of Ensafer Web

Tags:      Postet:  June 15, 2012

In the previous blog post we presented Ensafer iOS, in this post we’ll take a look at another innovation: Ensafer Web. It is also in beta, but will soon be available to all Ensafer users.

The Ensafer client software for Windows made Ensafer until recently only available to users who have Windows PC. This is now history: We have expanded Ensafer and now offers the service via both browsers and iOS (iPhone / iPad). It is a pleasure to present the screen shots and menus from Ensafer Web!

Ensafer via a browser

With Ensafer Web, you can log on Ensafer via most browsers (such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox). This means that regardless of your computer’s operating system, you can access your files, upload and download files, add contacts and share files. Everything from your browser!

Here we see the login page to Ensafer Web, where you can log in, create a new user or recover your password. Because of high security and the advanced encryption passwords are not stored with us. To recover your password requires that you remember the answer to your secret question when you created your account with Ensafer.

Security

The files that the user has stored in the cloud at Ensafer are encrypted locally on your computer before being uploaded and stored encrypted. When the user logs on the Web Ensafer he/she get access to the folder structure in Ensafer, the files are encrypted until you open them! This is an important security principle that we follow all the way – to provide end-to-end encryption.

Here we see the folder and file structure that you get when you click on Files at the top.

Menus

In the same menu (mentioned above) you have Shares showing your files / folders shared with others and others’ shares with you. Events showing the latest file changes, invitations and more. Furthermore, Contacts that provide an overview of the user’s contacts, and which files are shared with whom and finally it is Requests showing requests to and from you (file shares, contact requests).

Here we see the menu at closer range. When standing in the file overview (Files) you can click New in the blue menu bar to create a new folder. Marking the file / folder first, you can click Share to share it, Delete to delete it and More / Rename for to rename a file or folder.

This means that you find a lot of the functionality from the Ensafer client for Windows in Ensafer Web.

Uploading files

Clicking on + Upload you get the upload dialog and can navigate to where you want to upload files from. The file you choose will be uploaded to the folder you are in when you press + Upload.

Working with files

A file is opened by double clicking on it. You get a menu option where you can choose to open the file directly or save it locally. Opening the file directly it opens immediately into the associated application (eg. Word or Adobe Reader). Only when you open the file it is decrypted.

If you want to edit a file in Word, you have to save it locally first so that it is easy to find it when you want to upload it to Ensafer again. Because of the advanced encryption this must be done manually by the user using the + Upload in Ensafer Web.
